Memorial Parade...
Paulton village came out in the rain and wind on Sunday to remember the fallen at the armistice parade at the cenotaph. The band was thanked afterwards and received compliments on their playing. It is as always an honour to be asked to play for such a hertfelt event.
Double Hills Memorial
The band played at the 71st Double Hills memorial on Sunnday 6th September. To Commemorate the event on Sunday 17 September 1944 when sixteen glider and tug combinations took off from RAF Keevil for Arnhem as part of Operation Market Garden. Horsa Glider RJ113 was in this group of aircraft and contained 21 men from No 1 Platoon 9th (Airborne) Field Company Royal Engineers. While over the village of Farrington Gurney an explosion occurred in RJ113 splitting the glider in two. With no tail section the glider lost lift, broke its tow line and crashed into the Double Hills meadow near Paulton, killing all occupants.
It was a lovely sunny day, and a very fitting and well planned memorial. The band had practiced hard to get our performance spot on, and we were honoured to play at such an event. We hope to play there again next year.
We have some photo's of this event on the Gallery pages.

Summer Concert 2014
Friday 11th July saw the band's Summer concert take place at Mardons Social Club.
The band were very well received, and played a variety of songs, including some old favourites and some new ones! The concert considered the tunes played to include some of the nationalities represented in WWI, by playing tunes from different places, or songs from composers from different places. As well as an entire song which was extracts from 'Tommies Tunes' to play some of those old favourites from the war, such as 'pack up your troubles'.
There was a raffle at half time and the bar was open throughout the evening.
The finale was chosen by the bands Musical Director, Richard, with the promise that the band would hear the reasoning behind it on the night, and a very special meaning it had too... it was the same run through of songs played ot a memorial concert to comemorate 11 Royal Marine band members killed in a bombing in 1989 in Deal, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deal_barracks_bombing) some of those injured and killed were Richards friends. It was very touching.

Rodney Williams memorial Concert
July 2013
Paulton Concert Band recently played a memorial concert for the late Rodney Williams. (Chairman for the band.) The concert was attended by many o Rodney's friends and family. Rodneys family also made a presentation of a brand new E flat Bass to the band, which was bought with the funds put forward in memory of Rodney Williams. The tunes the band played were very thought out and were all chosen because they were Rodney'd favourites, or because they reminded people of him. I'm sure he would have loved it!
